Island Gems is the winner of the 2015 and 2017 KATHA FOOD AWARDS in the category: Best Product for Preserved Fruits and Vegetables. The Katha Food Awards (formerly known as Trendy Awards) confered biennially at IFEX, the Philippine's largest international expo, pays homage to newly developed Philippine food products and food applications that satisfy three major criteria: Packaging Design and Innovation; Product Innovation, and Market Demand and Readiness.
The 2015 award was judged by chef and restaurateur Margarita Forés, food editor Angelo Comsti, journalist Cheryl Tiu, Enderun Colleges dean Edgardo Rodriguez, PhD, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) division chief Daisy Tañafranca, and Blue Macay president and part of the board of directors of the Philippine Association of Food Technologists (PAFT) Ayet Austria.
The 2017 award was judged by SM Supermarket Senior Vice President for Marketing Millie Dizon, ZOMATO Philippines Country Manager Anton Ojeda, Philippines Airlines Manager for Food Planning and Standards Division Maria Criselda Abantao Rayos, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) division chief Daisy Tañafranca, and Food Packaging and Labeling Expert Abner Villahermosa.

The SIAL Innovation event reveals exhibitors’ most innovative products in an increasingly competitive market place through an original taste, a convenient and smart packaging, a new concept, the use of a new technology or a new manufacturing process. Island Gems 'Taro Leaves in Coco Cream' met the highest criteria of the SIAL selection committee made up of food industry specialists to be included in the SIAL INNOVATION SELECTION 2015 ASEAN. The SIAL selection committee chose the product for the naturalness, and innovation in composition and recipe in line with natural and healthy consumer trends.
